In an increasingly global marketplace, RFID (Radio
Frequency Identification) presents the opportunity for suppliers to overcome supply-chain
challenges that have accompanied the
growth of global trade. The goals are simple: maximize availability
and create a greater selling opportunity. This paper will provide
high- level insight for organizations looking to participate in the
world of RFID and EPC (Electronic
Product Code).
The ID System consists of RFID
tags and RFID readers. RFID tags are devices that consist of a
microchip and an antenna attached to a substrate. The EPC is stored
on this tag, which is applied to cases, pallets and/or items. RFID
tags communicate their EPCs to EPC readers using Radio Frequency
Identification. EPC readers communicate with RFID tags via radio
waves and deliver information to local business information systems.
The Electronic Product
Code (EPC) is an identification scheme for identifying physical
objects via Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags and other
means. The standardized EPC data consists of an EPC (or EPC
Identifier) that uniquely identifies an individual object.
The EPC is a “license plate that
identifies (items, cases, pallets, locations, etc) in the supply
chain. The EPC is divided into numbers that identify the
manufacturer and product type. The EPC also has an extra set of
digits, a serial number, to uniquely identify items. This unique EPC
identity is the key to the product it identifies in the EPC global
Network.
The
EPC is made up of the following components:
1. Header – which
identifies the length, type, and EPC generation
2. Manager Number – identifies the company
3. Object Class – SKU, Stock Keeping Unit
4. Serial Number
CWX*RFID Solution
Overview
The CWX*RFID Solution will come in
various flavors based specifically on Supplier requirements. Components
of the CWX*RFDI Solution will vary from simple RFID tag generation
to complete EPC IS (Electronic
Product Code Information Services) integration, and every point
in between.
CWX*RFID Utilities
These Utilities are designed to
manage basic system information required to generate, manage and
report on all aspects of the RFID Tag Usage.
EPC related data is
stored on our local application system known as “Discovery
Services”. The EPC
Information Services (EPCIS) is the gateway to EPCglobal Network.
EPCIS receives TAG events from CWX*RFID (EPC IS), generates track
and trace events and stores it on local data store for future use. EPC IS using
the VeriSign Web Service. (SOAP over HTTP) At this point all RFID
Trading Partner queries to the EPCglobal Network and the local
Discovery Services are available.
EPC Utilities:
Manage Static Information (GTIN
Data)
Manage Dynamic Information (Instance Data)
Create XML Defined Format
Load data to local Discovery Services.
Write the data to the EPCglobal Network (SOAP)
C3000i*RFID Solution Overview
COMMERCEWorx has long been known
for our advanced Internet Based ASN/EDI solutions. C3000i*RFID is a
logical evolution to our C3000i*ASN product offering. EPC data
generated in C3000i is combined with the additional ASN related data
to deliver a complete EPC data solution. C3000i*RFID contains not
only ASN required data such as the SSCC number but the entire EPC
data requirement as well. This combination of data solutions
delivers unprecedented containment of data in the market.
Components of the C3000i*RFID
Solution will vary from simple RFID tag generation to complete EPC
IS (Electronic
Product Code Information Services) integration, and every point
in between.
The C3000i*RFID (Tag Generator)
solution consists of software designed to create and track RFID tags
as they are generated.
C3000i will function as usual
through the ASN Header screen and into Pick and Pack. From here
C3000i will utilize the EPC Tag Generation functions to build the
ASN with the appropriate combination of UCC128 Labels and EPC RFID
Tags.
The C3000i*RFID (EPC
IS) solution creates EPC IS based data exchanges to comply with
industry standards. EPC related data is stored on our local
application system known as “Discovery Services”. The EPC Information Services (EPCIS) is the
gateway to EPCglobal Network. EPCIS receives TAG events from C3000i*RFID
(EPC IS), generates track and trace events and stores it on local
data store for future use. EPC IS using the VeriSign Web Service. (SOAP
over HTTP) At this point all RFID Trading Partner queries to the
EPCglobal Network and the local Discovery Services are available.
Features include:
-
Manage Static Information (GTIN Data)
-
Manage Dynamic Information (Instance Data)
-
Create XML Defined Format
-
Load data to local Discovery Services.
